21/10/2014

The first day together after the shoot! Today we started by gathering the SD cards, logging onto the Macs and opening up Final Cut Pro. Our lead editor Rhys gathered the team and delegated the scenes of which they will edit together for the promo.Once this was sorted they began to log and transfer the clips onto a timeline before sorting them into files and naming them.  Whilst they were doing that the rest of the class including myself cracked on writing up a review of the shooting day. Including what happened, what we did and how we could do better next time. By 11:30 this was written up and the editing team had put together two of the scenes and the results we brilliant due to the hard work and the colouring/quality of the Canon's.

At lunch we discovered that a scene we needed was nowhere to be found and had to change an aspect of the promo however this was managed well and was a minor setback. After lunch the team carried on editing and by 14:30/15:00 the editing was almost done bar one scene. Rhys was working in After Effects to give the promo a little more power and saved the work. We were waiting on Luke to complete the last crucial scene before editing it all together.

Once the day was done I went ahead to update my blog and to double check that everything was all written up for my deadline at 23:55 today.

Review of the shoot

Unit 5:  Review of Project
Date: Friday 19th October
Location: Leith house orchards - Burnham Thorpe

The crew and I arrived at the campsite at 10am, upon arrival we met the client and briefed her on the shooting schedule. Group B arrived at the same time and we discussed what hours we would share the actors and planned a suitable time for them to have breaks/lunch. After the client had set up the bell-tent, Group B took the actors at 11:30 for 1 hour during this time the crew set up the equipment, props, took a quick recce and captured cutaways.

At 13:45 we began to film the actual footage, during this time we were quick but made the best quality possible in the time we had, by 17:30 we had filmed everything bar the last scene by the campfire. This had to be filmed later to get the evening effect and a glow of warmth upon the skin of the actors. Ali (the director) and Sam (the producer) stayed behind and got a later lift home in order to film.

We did encounter a few minor step backs/problems throughout the day, the step backs being that Group B ran over their allocated time slots, therefore setting us back along with batteries dying, however the other problems were very minor and we overcame them with no issues.

The things i would do differently is; having the actors all day without sharing with another group, to use another location and maybe get some other angles in a scene, however the shoot went really well for the time we had allocated and the client was impressed with our work; therefore it was a really good shoot/day.

Crew List

Storyboards/Equipment

Now the shooting days have been confirmed for Friday 19th October, we assigned Matt and a few other members of the crew to create storyboards. They were done within the hour and was filed away ready for the shoot.

Next Ali, Adas and I went to book out the Canon DSLR 5D to film with and the H4n recorder to capture the audio during the shoot. We selected these as they give the better quality of image and the colouring was essential to capture the escapism and fresh colours of the countryside.

    The Final Idea

Today we discussed the overview of the meeting and decided to overview the clients ideas and agreements in order to create and finalize the final plan. The team included all members of the crew, researchers, editors and producers etc.

Narrative- A family (preferably stereotype) Mum, Dad, Son and Daughter that live in the city and are packing for a vacation away in the countryside. They drive to a campsite where they oversee a distant memory of a rundown pitch with miserable weather. The family (2) in the memory are arguing and miserable in a traditional camping trip with a normal tent. The car carries on driving through when they arrive in an open field (campsite) when a bell tent is pitched and is looking radiant against the sunny countryside. The family pull up next to the luxury posh tent that has already been pitched and ready for them to use. The family seems overjoyed with this outcome rather than the distant memory before, next the family are cracking on with all the fun outdoor activity's whilst the sun is shining without the worry of setting up. These include hiking, bird watching, catch and building a campfire. After the activity's the family is sitting by the campfire enjoying a singsong and having a goodtime before the children run to bed and the adults have a glass of wine.

    The Cast-
Mum aged (late 30s) - Kate (the client)
Dad aged (late 30's) - Nick Sellers (Springboard TV)
Son aged (10-12) - Liam (Level 2 media)
Daughter aged (14-16) - Kitty (Level 2 media)

The actors will look wealthy and city bound to maximise the reach for the target audiences.

After confirming all of the information myself (assistant producer) Sam (Producer) and Rebecca ( Production Manager) set out to create the production schedule, once confirmed with the director (Ali) on dates and times, we created a costume list for the actors and contacted them so they knew what was going on.

    24/09/2014 - After Meeting Brief

After reporting back to the rest of the crew/group about the meeting we cracked down and began mind mapping and creating the promo in our minds so it was fresh and everyone knew what they were doing.  Once the final idea was rooted we began looking for available locations for shooting and getting in contact with actors etc. The research team then went off and began looking into places where there is a high likelihood of campers along with activity's to film that could link in with our current promo.

    17/09/2014 - The Meeting

This afternoon was great, the meeting went smoothly and Kate (the client) really seemed enthusiastic with our ideas for her promo.

We met her in Hunstanton along with our equipment we needed to film. Once we had met Kate we set up a few cameras to just film the action for us to recall exactly what was said in the meeting, a few times we kept 'rolling' when 'Cut' was called in order to create a natural atmosphere and to ease up the tension that is usually caused during filming.

During the meeting the producers from each group sat down with the client and started with a easy icebreaker chat, before settling in and asking questions that our group would need to know before creating the promo itself.

Next we pitched our ideas to Kate and she enjoyed the ideas and commented on a few parts curiously but we reassured her with our planed out pitch and answers. After settling and compromising the plans we then talked about actors and how we would tie in the design of the website with the theme of the promo.

    14/09/2014 - Roles and Ideas

Today we discussed the previous meeting and began to delegate job roles within the project. We decided that the Producer was going to be Sam and the Director Ali; I was placed as Executive Producer, my job was to note down all the planning and ideas we had and after I created a folder and put together all the paperwork and notes that we would need.

Next we planned the meeting with the client 'Kate' and discussed all the questions that we would need to ask along with educated and detailed answers to anything we would have to reply with. The date was set for the 17/09/2014.

We discussed our final ideas and negotiated how to pitch them in order to gain the best possible reaction from the client. The four people that would attend this meeting was Myself, the producer, the director and audio. This was decided so we could all discuss elements with the client and fill out forms and take notes efficiently.

    09/09/14 - 09:38 - The Brief

Today I attempted to create a blog on Tumblr, however it failed to work.. So I have now created a blogger account and so far its working!
Along with creating a blog we also were briefed on a upcoming project with a client '2posh2pitch' which requires us to create a promotional video ; As the name states it is a 'Glamping' company. The idea is to create a piece that will attract more customers for the client.
We researched via website to acquire the design/concept for the promo along with social media to get the basic analysis of what 'Glamping' actually is. Turns out its just posh camping! You pay a sum of money and add a location within reason and they pitch a glam tent, stay there and then go home when you're done! Brill!

Before we planned or created any ideas for the promo we looked into/analysed the website in order to get an insight of the client and her company. (The clients website is pictured above)
